Prof. Alexander M. Cannon is an ethnomusicologist with research expertise in traditional and popular music from southern Vietnam and in the Vietnamese diaspora, queer music-making, and creativity studies. He teaches classes in ethnomusicology, fieldwork methods, critical musicology, musical traditions of Asia, musical activism, and Black music-making in Britain, and also serves on the Executive Committee of the British Forum for Ethnomusicology and as Co-Editor of the journal Ethnomusicology Forum. He recently published his first monograph Seeding the Tradition: Musical Creativity in Southern Vietnam (Middletown, CT: Wesleyan University Press: 2022).
This June, we are delighted to invite Professor Cannon to Taiwan for exchange and dialogue with local scholars and students. Professor Cannon will share his extensive research on Vietnam and Vietnamese diasporic music, as well as his thoughts on the issue of "Global Music History" from the perspective of ethnomusicology. Drawing from his experience as an academic journal editor, he will also conduct a workshop on journal writing specifically designed for young scholars. We are excited to deepen local reflections and international exchange within the Taiwanese music research community through these series of events, and warmly welcome your participation!
