The Study Division of Research and Heritage 

The Subdivision of Research The Research Track emphasizes historical analysis and ethnographic fieldwork in the study of musical cultures in Taiwan and other regions of the world, fostering theories grounded in local experience. In recent years, the program has also explored the application of musical information retrieval technology and computational research methods in music scholarship. Alongside close attention to the uniqueness of individual musical traditions, students are trained to conduct both synchronic and diachronic comparative analyses, integrating micro- and macro-level perspectives to deepen their understanding of music cultures.

The Subdivision of Heritage The Heritage Track focuses on the performance practices of traditional and modern instrumental and vocal music while examining the aesthetic principles shaped by diverse social and cultural contexts. Emphasizing practice-based research, the program recognizes artistic research as a form of scholarly knowledge production. Through teaching, performance, and community engagement, students develop professional artistic competencies while contributing to the sustainable transmission and development of music and sound cultures.

The Study Division of Multimedia Applications

Centered on digital archives, audiovisual production, and curatorial practice, the Division of Multimedia Applications integrates technology into the preservation, communication, and dissemination of music cultures. GIEM provides professional audiovisual equipment that enables students to develop practical expertise through coursework and hands-on projects. In recent years, the Division has expanded its collaborations with industry partners and developed internship opportunities in Taiwan and abroad, providing students with hands-on training in music archiving, field, studio, and live recording, as well as the planning, curation, and production of music exhibitions and multimedia projects.
