Alban Couëffé is a French oud player and musicologist with wide and diversified interests in Western music, Rock and Global Music. He has studied oud with Khaled Ben Yahia in Lyon and Mehmet Emin Bitmez in Turkey, and organized an oud duet with his father. Couëffé came to Taiwan to do fieldwork in 2008 and joined NTU Chinese Orchestra as a player of huqin and ruan. He is living in Taiwan now as a crossover musician as well as researcher and teacher of Arabic music.
The workshop will present a brief overview on the fascinating Arabic music and its instruments. In sessions II, Couëffé will lead a Taksim improvisation and ensemble practice with all the participants.
